Some Lind of Fairytale
Graham Joyce
Interesting take on a fantasy story involving “fairies” and “humans”. Engaging story as each chapter is narrated by each of the main characters. You really get to know each character and their perspective of Tara’s explanation of disappearing for 20 yrs. The author has you guessing and second guessing if the story is true or imagined.

Land
Maggie O'Farrell
This is the first novel I've read in a very long time that actually made my cry... twice! Set just after the "Great Hunger" (potato famine) in Ireland, we are introduced to a sprawling tale of a family both struggling and benefitting from their connection to the land. There is great loss faced in this tale, but also great tenacity and determination. The female characters are written as bold, more so than their male counterparts, which I enjoyed. O'Farrell truly succeeds at world-building and this is one of her best to date.

Such a creative re-telling of the story of Achilles!

Wild Dark Shore

Amazing setting, decent character development, good plot. I found the love story a little contrived and the environmental tone a little heavy-handed but overall a haunting story and I'm glad I read it.

Disappearing Earth
Julia Phillips
The pace of this book was slow and for a missing persons case, it lacked any suspense or drama.

The Nightingale
Kristen Hannah
A beautifully tragic book about two sisters navigating life through WW2, their journey and the bravery they displayed during an unimaginable time. This story will give you all the feels and a heart warming ending

Cat Burglar Black

Fun graphic novel. Too bad there isn’t a sequel. Could see it as an animated movie.

The Hunter

The second in this series was even better than the first! This author can spin a yarn. I love the scenes and dialogue, and there are plenty of plot twists and turns to keep you wondering.

Taiwan Travelogue
Yang Shuang-Zi (Translated by Lin King)
Not a quick read. It was a slower read where you savored each page. Fascinating that the author chose the genre of fiction even though it was a true story. Loved the way the author described the scenery in beautiful detail and described the food in Taiwan so detailed and enticing. I am a Foodie so I appreciated the many meals that were mentioned. The history and culture of Taiwan was told in a very interesting way. The friendship of the 2 women (main characters) was complex and fascinating.

Missing Sam
Thrity Umrigar
It started out well-paced as a missing person case. However, it lost steam for me halfway when the case was essentially solved and it changed paths into something else. Overall, well-written but fell short for me.
